HBL PSL 11: The Business End – Who’s Flying and Who’s Fading?
The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 has reached a fever pitch. With 26 matches down and only a handful of league games remaining, the race for the playoffs is intensifying. While one team has already punched its ticket to the next round, others are fighting for survival in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons yet.
Here is a look at where all eight teams stand as the action shifts toward the final stages in Karachi and Lahore.
1. The Invincibles: Peshawar Zalmi
Status: Qualified
Peshawar Zalmi remains the only unbeaten side in the tournament. With 13 points from seven games, they officially became the first team to qualify for the playoffs following Lahore Qalandars' recent loss.
The Stars: Kusal Mendis (330 runs) and Babar Azam (301 runs) are the engines of the batting lineup.
The X-Factor: Young spinner Sufyan Moqim is making history, becoming the first Pakistani bowler to take 3+ wickets in five consecutive T20s.
2. Chasing Excellence: Islamabad United
Status: Strong Contenders
Sitting in second place, Shadab Khan’s men have perfected the art of the chase, winning all four of their victories while batting second. However, they face a tough final stretch against Hyderabad and Multan.
Key Performer: Shadab Khan is leading from the front with 9 wickets and crucial captaincy calls.
3. The Steady Sultans: Multan Sultans
Status: Top Four Favorites
Multan has been consistent, losing only to the Qalandars and Zalmi. They have a busy schedule ahead—four games in five days—which will test their squad depth and fitness.
Leading the Pack: Sahibzada Farhan has been their standout batter with 249 runs.
4. The Mid-Table Scramble: Quetta, Hyderabad, and Karachi
The battle for the final playoff spots is a mathematical maze.
Quetta Gladiators: Currently holding 4th place thanks to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). Their upcoming clash against Zalmi will be a true litmus test.
Hyderabad Kingsmen: The "Comeback Kings" of the season. After losing their first four matches, Glenn Maxwell’s arrival helped spark a three-game winning streak.
Karachi Kings: It’s been a "hot and cold" season for the Kings. To qualify, they likely need to win all their remaining games, including tough fixtures against Zalmi and Multan.
5. The Defending Champions in Trouble: Lahore Qalandars
The two-time champions are facing a nightmare scenario. With four losses already—three of which saw them bowled out for low scores in Karachi—Shaheen Shah Afridi’s side must win every remaining game to stay in the hunt. Their NRR of -1.020 is a major hurdle.
6. Heartbreak for the Newcomers: Rawalpindiz
Status: Eliminated
It has been a rough debut for the Rawalpindiz, who have lost all six of their matches. While they can no longer reach the playoffs, they now transition into the role of "spoiler," as their remaining matches against teams like Lahore and Multan could ruin the qualification hopes of others.
Silver Lining: Sam Billings (188 runs) and Mohammad Amir (8 wickets) have provided some individual highlights.
The Road to the Final
The drama is far from over. The remaining league matches will be played across Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore and National Bank Stadium, Karachi.
Qualifier (1 vs 2): April 28 (Karachi)
Eliminator 1 (3 vs 4): April 29 (Lahore)
Eliminator 2: May 1 (Lahore)
The Grand Final: Sunday, May 3 (Lahore)
