Leading the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings is Kane Williamson.
DUBAI: The ICC Men's Test Players Rankings for batters now place New Zealander Kane Williamson at the top, the organization announced on Wednesday. After the second England-Australia Test at Lord's, "Australia batter Steve Smith has made rapid progress towards the top, but Kane Williamson has replaced Joe Root as the number one in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings," according to a statement from the ICC. Smith moved up four spots to second place because to his 110 and 34 "Player of the Match" performance. The last time Smith held the top spot was in June 2021, when he briefly replaced Williamson before losing it to the New Zealand batsman once more.
Root, who could only muster scores of 10 and 18, fell to fifth place, giving Williamson the opportunity to reclaim the top spot. Williamson initially reached the top spot in November 2015 and last held it in August 2021. This is his sixth time holding the position. According to the most recent weekly update, Smith is only one point behind Williamson in the race for the top spots on the list, and Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, who are tied for third with 883 rating points each, are just one point behind Head.
After scoring 98 and 83 in the second Ashes Test, England batsman Ben Duckett shot up 24 spots to break into the top 20 for the first time in his career. Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes moved up nine spots to 23rd after scoring a courageous 155 in the second innings. After taking four wickets in the match, Australia's captain Pat Cummins has risen to second rank among bowlers, and left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc has climbed two spots to fourteenth with six takedowns. David Warner, the starter, is currently ranked 26th among batters after scoring 66 and 25 to move up four spots.
Harry Tector of Ireland moved up one spot to joint-sixth in the ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings after hitting 60 runs against Nepal in the seventh-place play-off game of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 at Harare. The two players to move up in the batting rankings are Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka (up eight spots to 38th) and Scott Edwards of the Netherlands (up five spots to 35th). Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal is now ranked 24th in the bowling rankings after taking three wickets against the United Arab Emirates. After strong performances, Scotland seam bowler Chris Sole (up 23 places to 39th) and Sri Lankan off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana (up 21 places to 32nd) have also made noteworthy advancements.
